Planning Blog: Scripts
For the past few weeks I have had a vague idea of where I want to take my pitch. Envisioning my pitch idea, I see somewhat of a muddled mess of a scene play out, with not much direction of what I want to do. It’s time I sit down and figure out how I want my opening sequence to be, and this is the blog just for that!
When I think of a script I think about the traditional ones real actors get, explaining all details of the scene. That being when people enter, dialogue, directed actions, and all of that fun stuff. So, a script of that kind is what I will be creating here. On we go!
OPENING SEQUENCE: SUBURBAN HOME- MORNING
SCENE ONE: We start in a bathroom. The camera is facing a mirror, as suddenly a girl is revealed by flipping her head up. She is brushing her teeth to an upbeat tune.
SCENE TWO: we are now in the hallway setting. The camera is positioned on a door, as the girl walks into frame, knocking on it. She calls out to her brother to wake up.
SCENE THREE: The next scene is the breakfast montage. All we see is the kitchen setting, where the camera is set. The girl walks in and begins taking out a toaster to make breakfast. From the kitchen she turns on the television to the new station. She continues making breakfast and calls out to her brother once again.
Here there is a shot change to show the Tv. Playing is a news segment about an outbreak of riots. There is an shot change to show the girl viewing the segment, then another eyeline match bringing the camera back to the television news.
SHOT CHANGE: The girl brushes the story off, once again jokingly calling out to her brother once again, asking if he would like apple or orange juice.
SCENE FOUR: The setting has changed back to the hallway. The girl knocks on the brothers door again. She jokingly asks if he still feels sick like he did the previous day. She tells him that excuse won’t work and he has got to get up.
SCENE FIVE: As the girl enters the kitchen again, she changes the television channel to another news station. The camera flips to show the television, and this segment is talking about an illness that is affecting many people. The girl is not listening.
SCENE SIX: We are back in the hallway setting as the girl gives one more knock. Finally, she opens the door. At first we see the bed is empty, as the girl walks over to look. The camera is now facing the girl, and behind her, we see her brother stumbling towards her, now infected. The title then enters.
There it goes! My script for my opening sequence. I feel relieved to finally out all my ideas down into one place. With a plan set, I feel more organized and prepared to finish up planning and get to production.
