Change of Plans

Image
A few weeks ago, I selected the song I would create a music video for. The song in question is Anti-hero, by Taylor Swift. This was back when her newest album first dropped, and I was in love with every song! However, weeks have passed. Let’s just say that song is not  a favorite of mine anymore. In fact, I find it incredibly annoying. It seems everywhere I go, it’s playing. Furthermore, since it’s such a popular song right now there may be a chance someone else will be making a video for it. Anti-hero is also a very straightforward song, and I feel there isn’t many ways to go creatively with it. Basically, I will end up with a video near identical to Taylor Swift’s. While it may sound like nitpicking, I feel like these are all important things to think about when creating a project as big as this one! With all factors considered, I’ve realized I need to select a new song. Moving forward, my music video project will be set to the song “Sinking” by Clairo! There were many reasons for th

Storyboarding for MV

Image
This week, I worked on my storyboard for my music video project! When creating this storyboard, I had many different ideas. Some, I couldn't decide on. That's why I have decided this storyboard will be more of a loose guide on how to shoot my video. As I get more ideas when I film, those will be incorporated into the project. This will have to be the case because I am still not even completely sure I want to film the song I originally chose!   Scene 1: As the intro of the song plays, I will be shown opening the blinds. This is a metaphor for letting the world in the lighting will abruptly change as the sun pours into the room. Scene 2: In the second scene, I will be filmed looking in the mirror. The camera won’t be shown as it will be angled from the side. This gives a shot of the mirror without taking away the illusion and immersion of the video. Scene 3: After that, the upcoming scene will show me going outside. As I walk though the door, the camera flips. This represents the

Video Planning!

After researching and gathering knowledge of different commercial conventions, the next step in the music video project is planning. I've decided since I am working alone, I will be the sole actor of the project. So I won't be able to act and film all the time. As a solution, my siblings will sometimes control the camera! Over that, since I am just one actor I will rake advantage of setting and scenery shots. With these extra shots I can fill up the runtime, and will require less assistance. Creative control of the camera shots will be solely mine.       Since my music video requires simple and modest settings and props, I will not need anything grand. I will find an appealing park, or natural area for outdoor shots. Another option would be filming on the beach, since its a music sound and the complicated ambient audio won't be an issue. Indoor scenes will be shot in my bedroom, to encapsulate that indie-pop vibe. ANother idea I had was to do a projector scenes for my eye-

Music Video Research

Image
Conducting my research for music videos, I watched some of my favorites. Though, I took note to look through videos of a similar genre to my song. This meant slower, more melancholic songs rather than a fun, loud, k-pop song. Only here, because I needed to research conventions of my chosen genre.        Before I could make a mental list of different conventions, I specifically analyzed some of my favorite music visuals. Thee first one is Mitski's "The Only Heartbreaker" another slow, sad pop song. In this video I noticed a variety of fairy-tale like settings. Additionally, the visuals told a story, with Mitski being the only character in the video. This detail will be similar to my video, as I will be the sole actor. Another note was how when the music picked up, got larger and louder, so did the scenes. At the drop of the song, the setting goes up in flames, matching the dramatic musical shift. Another music video I looked at was Clairo's "Pretty Girl &qu

Back in Business- Working Solo!

For our AICE Media Studies music video commercial, I will be working alone! There are some pros and cons to working alone, but I think this choice would be best for me. For one, I have complete creative control over the project. To be honest, I can be stubborn, and I don't think collaborating with another student would work well. When I have an idea for something, changing it to work with someone else plan can be difficult. Additionally, getting to work alone means I make my own schedule. I can film whenever is convenient for me. It may be last minute... but thats alright! Because my procrastination would only be affecting myself. To be entirely honest though, I think working with someone else on this project could've also been beneficial in some ways. For one, filming myself, or finding someone to be the may subject of the video, could be difficult. Will I be the one filming? or will I get someone to film some shots of me? There are a lot of strings to tune and thing

Re-Introduction of Jessica Espinal

Image
Hello! My name is Jessica Espinal, and  I am a tenth-grade student at Fort Lauderdale High School. Though you already know all of this from my first introduction. I could copy and paste the last one, which would still give me an A, but I think I have more to say about myself! So far, AICE Media Studies has been one of my favorite classes. The work has been so light, yet in everything I do, I learn so much! Recently, I just learned how to edit, and now I'm looking forward to trying all types of new things for this music video project. Specifically, getting to pick a song and film visuals too. Speaking of music, I've been listening to a lot of new things as of late. Last introduction post I mentioned my love for music, and there are some new favorites of mine. Rock has been a new entry. there's a band I love called Polyphia, who collab with artists and fuse the sounds of rock and pop together, which has had quite a hold on my Spotify stats. Japanese pop has been on repeat
